Too late to get the H1N1 Vaccine?

Questions have been nonstop since the beginning of the flu season this year due to the spread of novel H1N1 influenza (swine flu). Some people may be wondering at this point, is it too late to get the vaccine?

The short answer to that question is no. While our nation has had two waves of increased H1N1 activity, the possibility remains that a third wave may occur in the following months.

Now that vaccine supply is ample from the federal government, a reduction has been seen in public demand across the state. Perhaps this is due to the idea that the virus is no longer a risk for individuals; however, recent reports from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) may indicate otherwise. Several boarder states to Kentucky are now reporting local and regional influenza activity which indicates a possible third wave of the H1N1 virus.

While practicing good hygiene habits will help reduce the spread of influenza, the best method of protection is to get vaccinated. Consider taking the necessary precautions to protect yourself and your family from this virus for the remainder of flu season. Anderson County Health Department continues to offer free H1N1 vaccine to anyone and urges those who have not yet received the vaccine to do so now. No appointment necessary.
